St Mary’s and the coast around it is also really nice! Jekyll is my favorite because it’s paid entry and protected land, so less people unless it’s a holiday or weekend. Jekyll and St Simons have rich history with tours and everything, the isles are my happy place in this state. If you go south, Okefenokee park, Savannah, and the Golden Isles. Kennesaw has killer food as well! Be aware that people drive like maniacs anywhere in GA, but the metro area and suburbs surrounding it are NUTS. I’ve yet to see anyone recommend the trails and history at Kennesaw Mountain battlefield park, do that! Have a walk at the Marietta historic square, sit in the park with a cup of bubble tea and just watch people! They do a lot of activities up there on the weekends so definitely check out the local websites and community pages. Lived here all my life, drove and explored almost every inch of the state thanks to college and vacations. Lots of places not too far from the city with all different levels of challenge. If you are here during the summer, consider white water rafting. I like to hike to the top then ride down to the bottom on the cable car. Also, the museum that talks about the initial construction process is interesting. If you do go, make sure to check that the attractions are open, and definitely do the hike to the top (ask around as the trail to the top isn't always easy for people to find). Stone Mountain was mentioned, and it is decent. There are a fair number of Civil War monuments and battlefields in the state if you are a historian. Some decent wines with the occasional terrible or amazing wines thrown into the mix. Georgia does have a flourishing wine industry in the north of the state, and vineyard tours are a lot of fun. Bill Bryson's book A Walk in the Woods is a witty and humorous introduction to the trail if you need reading material on the flight over. One of the starting points is in Georgia at a wonderful waterfall. ![]() Maybe read up about the Appalachian Trail which is the most famous hiking trail in the United States. The area is beautiful, and hiking in our mountains north of Atlanta is amazing. ![]() The city is extremely small, so plan on exploring the mountains around the city. I will say it's an extremely American experience and a great insight into what many Georgians think a German/European city is like. It's about one and half hours north of the city. Helen is hit or miss depending on personal preference. Savanah is amazing, and one of the few places left in Georgia where you can get a feel for the older historic side of our state on a large scale. Plus that area is walkable with a fair amount of pubs and music venues. If you like strip clubs, the strip club voted both the best and worst strip club (simultaneously) in Atlanta is at the Clermont Hotel. Martin Luther king jr national historical park, If there are things what only happen in a certain time of year, then please do still put them down and I will do more research, thank you. Down below I have written down in what I plan on doing and eating, so anyone's input on top of that list would be really appreciated. I am happy to do the really obvious touristy stuff and also really fascinated in what the locals love doing and taking In the culture. But I wanted to ask for other peoples suggestions on what to do and eat in georgia, just incase I missed anything out.
